For years the latest trauma research has shown us how children and adults adapt to traumatic experiences, and how those adaptations alter our brain chemistry and autonomic nervous systems. Having applied the principles of Polyvagal Theory and Neuroception in a treatment center setting, we're bringing you a three part event to examine trauma through the lenses of Attachment in regard to relational wounding, Awareness as it pertains to unconscious bias and accountability, and Attunement of the nervous system through somatic experiences and play therapy.
This day of discovery brings together three experts in the field of trauma and mental health treatment for a didactic and experiential event: Carmen Dominguez, LMHC, Chief Clinical Advisor of Integrative Life Network; Ester Nicholson, Founder and CEO of Soul Recovery, and author of Soul Recovery: 12 Keys to Healing Dependence; and Mara Giovanni, MSW, Founder and Creator of Kali Connection Therapy. The conversation is broadly philosophical and diligently practical, challenging the norms of treatment and offering us new paradigms for talking about and treating trauma.

Kali Connection Therapy (KCT): A Playful and Empowering Somatic Therapy for Treating Trauma and Regulating the Nervous System
Presented By: Mara Giovani, MSW, Founder and Creator of Kali Connection Therapy
According to Stephen Porges, play functions as a neural exercise that improves the efficiency of the neural circuit that can instantaneously downregulate fight or flight behaviors. Bessel van der Kolk emphasizes that to heal from trauma, we must feel a sense of safety in the body again. This presentation will cover the concepts of safety, attunement and coregulation. It will also engage participants through playful, Kali Connection Therapy (KCT) somatic regulation exercises which give a felt sense of empowerment and safety that both the therapist and the client can benefit from during sessions.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Communicate the importance of somatic safety, attunement and co-regulation from the Polyvagal perspective.
Identify somatic signs of trauma or dorsal vagal shutdown in clients and implement KCT exercises to prime their nervous systems toward feelings of agency and empowerment.
Reenact three techniques that can be used right away to help regulate clients somatically in session.
