Description

Kali Connection Therapy (KCT) offers an experiential approach that moves beyond traditional methods, cultivating a deeply embodied sense of safety, connection, and empowerment. Through rhythmic, bilateral exercises, KCT actively engages the nervous system, encouraging co-regulation and deepening attunement. This dynamic practice uniquely blends nervous system regulation with real life self-defense techniques of Filipino Martial Arts.

Rather than following a standard trauma-therapy model, KCT provides a disconfirming experience for trauma survivors, helping them build a sense of safety and resilience from within. Clients leave sessions feeling empowered and eager to integrate KCT’s positive effects into their daily lives. For therapists, KCT not only boosts client outcomes but also provides essential tools for managing their own nervous systems, reducing the effects of vicarious trauma, and enhancing their therapeutic presence.

Note: Therapists with significant unprocessed somatic trauma may need additional time to become certified. Practicing KCT requires developing personal regulation skills to support full client attunement without transmitting stress. Certification generally takes three months of bi-weekly practice. Additional supervision is available at a reduced rate if required.

Occasionally, individuals who are not certified therapists may be granted permission to pursue certification.

Training Overview

KCT Basics

  • Learn foundational exercises, such as the top tap series, retraction exercise, core regulatory and regulating down tap series.

  • Work from a play state to foster curiosity, connection, and engagement rather than triggering fight-or-flight responses.

Trauma and Nervous System Regulation

  • Understand trauma’s impact on the body with insights from Polyvagal Theory, and the Neurosequential Model

  • Learn the critical roles of attunement and co-regulation in nervous system healing, and explore how KCT uniquely applies these principles to create connection and safety.

  • Practice techniques to differentiate genuine connection from dopamine-driven impulses.

Understanding Trauma in the Body:

  • We’ll explore three defining characteristics of trauma—powerlessness, intrusion, and contraction—and examine their direct impact on the soma (body). Additionally, we will look at how fight, flight, and shutdown responses show up physically and how KCT exercises respond directly to these dysregulated states, fostering awareness and regulation.

Harnessing the Play State:

  • We’ll explore the science behind play’s ability to activate neural pathways for increased plasticity and nervous system regulation. You’ll learn how Kali Connection Therapy uniquely integrates play to promote resilience and lasting change, setting it apart in its approach to nervous system rewiring.

Bottom-Up vs. Top-Down Responses - Managing Sympathetic Activation and Dorsal Shutdown

  • Master the balance between reflexive (bottom-up) and intentional (top-down) responses, focusing on how to navigate adrenaline and acetylcholine responses.

  • Use techniques like the 40 BPM method to support clients in calming heightened states and facilitating safety.

Emotional Regulation and Anger Expression

  • Develop skills for helping clients safely regulate emotions and express anger, creating choice and resilience over automatic reactions.

Expanding the Window of Tolerance

  • Utilize pendulation exercises to increase clients' ability to manage stress, enhancing their stability during challenging moments. Master the KCT Focus, Flash, Relax sequence to effectively rewire the stress response and build resilience.

Mindful Awareness in Somatic Work

  • Practice two meditative KCT exercises for integration, regulation, and embodied presence, enhancing client attunement.

Empowerment Warrior Template -

  • Learn techniques to cultivate focus and wisdom as foundational strengths within the Warrior Empowerment Model. Practicing these empowering movements helps clients move beyond the residual feelings of helplessness often left in the nervous system by trauma.

  • Learn about Direct State Induction and its impact on the principle that “story follows state.” Engage in specific direct state induction practices, including postures, gestures, and meditation, to activate resilience pathways within the nervous system.

  • Understand domain-general learning and experience the unique power of the KCT approach in building resilience and confidence that extend across all areas of life.
